Community Workshop to Address Reentry and Mental Health Challenges
Waukegan, IL – March 5, 2025 – The Legacy Reentry Foundation, in collaboration with NAMI Lake County, is proud to announce "ANCHORED: A Reentry and Mental Health Initiative," a transformative workshop aimed at bridging the gap between reentry and mental health. The event will take place on March 22, 2025, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Legacy Center, located at 1095 Green Bay Rd., Waukegan, IL 60085.
This free community workshop is designed for formerly incarcerated individuals, faith leaders, mental health professionals, individuals living with mental illness, and community leaders seeking valuable mental health and reentry resources. Attendees will engage in insightful discussions and gain practical tools to support successful reintegration and mental well-being.
Key Workshop Topics:
Suicide Awareness: Breaking the Silence, Building Hope Understanding the mental health crisis in justice-impacted communities, recognizing warning signs, and creating supportive systems that foster resilience and healing.
Policy Discussion: Should We Lock Everyone Up? Examining mass incarceration policies, exploring alternatives such as restorative justice and mental health diversion programs, and advocating for policy change.
Changing Cognition: Modifying Your Thoughts for a Renewed Mind Understanding the connection between thought patterns and behavior, applying cognitive restructuring techniques, and integrating faith-based and evidence-based strategies for lasting change.
Featured Speakers:
George Moore, Jr. Founder and Executive Director of Legacy Reentry Foundation, certified NAMI facilitator, pastor, author, and dedicated advocate for mental health and social justice.
John Fallon Treasurer of NAMI Lake County with over 40 years of experience in mental health, homelessness services, and reentry support, currently serving as Vice President of NAMI Illinois.
"ANCHORED" aims to equip participants with valuable mental health resources, connections to local support services, and tools for self-care and resilience. Whether personally impacted by mental health challenges, working in reentry, leading a congregation, or looking to support those in need, attendees will find the workshop enriching and empowering.
