Reimagining Legacy
At Legacy Reentry Foundation, we believe that true reintegration isn’t just about employment or housing—it begins in the mind. With founder George Moore Jr.’s certification as a NAMI Sharing Hope/FaithNet Facilitator, we’ve expanded our support to include specialized cognitive health services designed for justice-impacted individuals and their families.
Why Cognitive Health Matters
After incarceration, many returning citizens face invisible wounds: trauma, depression, anxiety, memory or attention issues, and the weight of stigma. These cognitive and emotional barriers can sabotage even the strongest efforts at reentry.
Our Cognitive Health Services are built to address:
-
Trauma and PTSD related to incarceration and community violence
-
Anxiety, depression and stress around identity change and reintegration
-
Cognitive setbacks (memory, focus, executive functioning) that hinder job readiness
-
Internalized stigma and self-belief issues that block opportunity and purpose
When the mind is supported, the path to employment, stable housing, and meaningful community engagement becomes far clearer.
What We Offer
1. Cognitive & Emotional Screening
We begin with a confidential assessment—led by peer-trained staff and licensed consultants—to identify cognitive strengths and areas for focused support.
2. Structured Cognitive Skills Workshops
-
Memory and focus training for everyday life and employment success
-
Executive-function modules (planning, decision-making, impulse control)
-
Emotional regulation and resilience sessions rooted in trauma-informed care
-
Faith-integrated reflection and identity repair forums
3. One-On-One Coaching & Peer Mentoring
Each participant is paired with a Legacy certified peer coach who has lived system experience. Together they build a personalized Cognitive Health Plan that aligns with the participant’s reentry goals: employment, education, family stability.
4. Group Therapy & Support Circles
Faith-based cognitive health groups (drawn from NAMI Sharing Hope/FaithNet curriculum) create safe space for returning citizens, families of the justiceimpacted, and community supporters. These circles reduce stigma, build connection, and normalize mental health discussions.
5. Navigation to Specialized Services
When needed, Legacy links clients to external partners (therapists, neuro-psychologists, substance-use counselors) and supports access to insurance, scheduling, and coordination—ensuring the cognitive health work is fully integrated.
